🦉💙💛 RCISD Staff Spotlight: Celebrating Our Speech Team! 💛💙🦉

Today we’re recognizing two incredible members of our Reagan County ISD Special Programs team who help students find their voices—our Speech-Language Pathologist, Shelbi Gunnels, and Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA), Sheyla Rodriguez.

Communication is one of the most important tools a child can have, and these dedicated professionals work every day to help students strengthen their speech, language, social communication, and confidence. From articulation and language development to supporting students with individualized communication needs, their impact reaches far beyond therapy sessions.

Our Speech-Language Pathologist oversees evaluations, develops individualized therapy plans, collaborates with families and staff, and ensures students receive the support they need to succeed. Our SLPA works alongside them to provide direct services, practice skills with students, and help turn goals into real progress each day.

Together, they help students build confidence in the classroom, connect with others, and develop skills that will benefit them for a lifetime. Their patience, compassion, and dedication make a lasting difference for our students, families, and schools.

Thank you for helping our students be heard, understood, and empowered to succeed. We appreciate all that you do for RCISD!

Reagan County ISD is pleased to announce that Jerry Birdsong will be the principal at Reagan County High School for the 2026-27 school year. Mr. Birdsong has served the RCHS campus the past two springs in an interim capacity. Mr. Birdsong brings nearly thirty years of administrative experience, ten years as a high school principal, sixteen years as a school superintendent, along with various interim positions over the past four years. Prior to administration, he taught and coached across the state of Texas for 10 years. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from West Texas State University in 1984 and his Masters of Educational Administration from West Texas A&M University in 1995. “I have enjoyed working with the staff and students at RCHS the past two springs. I have always said that if I was interested in full-time principalship, Reagan County would be the one and here we are,” said Birdsong. “I am looking forward to being a part of all the great happenings on campus this coming year. It’s an honor and a privilege to be the principal at RCHS.” Mr. Birdsong currently resides in Levelland, but will be full-time in the Big Lake community later this summer. He is married to Stephanie, and together they have three daughters and seven grandchildren.
It truly takes a village to organize and host a memorable Prom for our students. We could not have done it without the support, generosity, and dedication of these individuals and businesses. Thank you all for helping make this night so special for our students!
